”A few weeks ago, a large French store reopened in Paris. La Samaritaine, whose renovation lasted almost 15 years, is one of the symbols of the trade revolution of the late nineteenth century. It is the place evoked by Emile Zola in her book, Au Bonheur des Dames (The Paradise of Women). The store, decorated in Art Nouveau style, renovated by the LVMH group, offers 20,000 square meters for cosmetics and fashion. There were voices that said that it was not the time for this opening to take place, seen as a frivolity, especially since many people are suffering now, they do not have jobs, their concerns, globally, are completely in other spheres.
Valid arguments to which I would add, however, that such an opening is a signal of hope, optimism, normalcy; such a store creates jobs for thousands of people.
Back to us, I noticed that concerts, theater performances began to take place. These are another sign of optimism, so necessary for a year now. The organization of these concerts and shows offer, again, jobs, in addition to the moments of relaxation and fun that the spectators will have. Furthermore, let’s not forget that artists can’t just feed themelves with music and poetry.
The hotels, the terraces are full, the people have started to travel. On the radio we can hear commercials for movies running in the cinema.
Summer gives us a break, it has created a space where we seem to have forgotten that we have not yet completely emerged from the fog of the pandemic.
All of the above are very good signs, they give us the oxygen we needed after a long time with all kinds of restrictions.
But it’s good to be careful. Portugal reintroduced traffic restrictions during the night, the number of infected people increased there to the level of February, and the Delta version of the virus would be present in 70% of cases of infections, according to an announcement on Biziday.
The United Kingdom has been postponing the lifting of restrictions due to the increase in the number of infections with the new variant of the virus. Scheduled for June 21, ‘Freedom Day’ has now been rescheduled for July 19.
France has announced that the fourth wave of the pandemic will begin by the end of July.
If we turn on the TV, we find out that in the autumn we will have a wave four, that the third dose of Pfizer vaccine will follow, that in the countries where matches from the football championship took place, the number of infections will increase.
All these are exhortations to caution, to a calculated relaxation. This means paying attention to a few things, such as:
Let’s wear the mask properly indoors
To wear the mask when we are in the elevator – or to go up the stairs, when possible; in other words, to avoid being more in a small space
Let’s wash our hands – a habit I hope to stay.
Beyond the attention, however, I would like to end by saying that it is good that people go on vacation, that we have concerts, beautiful shops, which promote excellence in customer treatment, high standards, and these can be enjoyed by society as a whole.
Now, when many areas have been severely affected by the economic and health crisis, when many people are tired, confused, demotivated, when companies have begun to care about the well-being and mental health of employees, events, exhibitions, construction, they are positive signs, which give confidence, courage, hope. So, keeping a corner of mind for attention to hygiene, distancing, protection, let’s enjoy shows, shops, holidays, friends, life, every day.”
