You may be familiar with such statements:
- I don’t know how to play tennis;
- I’m not good at…;
- My medical tests for… are bad; I’m not mindful enough of my health;
- I am not confident about myself;
- I can’t lose weight;
- I can’t quit smoking;
- I am not able to drive the car;
- I do not know how to swim;
- I don’t know how to do better;
- I don’t know how to prioritize;
- I do not know how to dance;
- I don’t know how to please everyone;
- I do not know what I want.
These are statements that place us in a defeatist, victim position. I think each of us can do more than that though.
Let’s add ”Yet” at the end of the sentence:
- I don’t know how to play tennis yet;
- I’m not good at… yet;
- I can’t lose weight yet;
- I can’t swim yet!
”Yet”, added at the end of the sentence, each time, will help us, step by step, change the way we think. This way, we will try and improve, get better, instead of stating fatalistically, as we tend to, that ‘this is all we could do’. The way we think (our ‘mindset’, as we Romanians like to say) can be changed, little by little, if we want, if we intend to do so. The good news is that it is up to each of us.
