”Any path to success is easier with a mentor aside.
Professional Women’s Network (PWN) Romania, the organization that supports career women (corporate or entrepreneurial) to achieve their professional goals, kicks off this fall, the 7th edition of the mentoring program. This time in an online format, the program will address the challenges created by the pandemic crisis to better guide maintainers to achieve their goals.
The program lasts for a period of 6 months and consists of monthly meetings that take place either face to face, or by phone or online (Skype).
“The mentoring program of PWN Romania brings members closer and allows experienced professionals to be part of the growth and development of those who are at the level of the beginner of a successful career,” explains Georgeta Dendrino, the new VP Partnerships PWN Romania.
The mentoring program is developed and implemented by the Mentoring Committee (Mentoring Angels), led by Paula Bușe, Vice President of Mentoring of PWN Romania and seven members, including Georgeta Dendrino.
But to better understand what impact such a program can have on your career and how it can change your life, Georgeta Dendrino answered the two most important questions, what you need and what a mentor can help you with.
We fully reproduced her answer:
Why I recommend you have a mentor now:
- This period is uncertain, difficult;
- The incomes of many companies are very low, layoffs will follow, they can no longer support the same number of people;
- Working from home or from anywhere involves adaptation, reorganization, so the home space should be both office and a more intimate, relaxing space, and a family space;
- The boundaries between when we’re working and when we’re disconnected have become blurred;
- The connection with our colleagues is much weaker. The same goes for our need for relationships, validation. Not being on the same page with others becomes more of a rule.
- Our manager does as much as he/she can, goes through the same context, the same fears, uncertainties, having difficulties adapting, as we do;
- Each of us has loved ones around whom we support – children, significant other, parents (in some cases the support is probably mutual).
How a mentor can help you:
- They listen to you – we all need to be heard, understood;
- They give you different perspectives – maybe you remember Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket, the cricket that was always in Pinocchio’s shadow, gave him different points of view, drew his attention to the potential dangers, to the pros and cons of actions, decisions. So is the mentor;
- Knowledge transfer;
- Sharing experiences;
- Recommendations – in various forms: actions, reflection, books, articles, people, mindset;
- It works as a container for your worries, your thoughts, a catalyst sometimes;
- You have access to experienced people from various companies, you develop other connections;
- It helps you keep the level of stress caused by this period at a healthy level;
- Supports you in your career, helping you develop the skills you need for the future;
- It supports you in your quest to get to know yourself better, to be your own leader;
- It helps you to go well through this period, to become a better, more informed, more confident person, and not be like those pans made out of Teflon, on which nothing ever sticks.”
