At the beginning of the summer, two swallows made a nest in my mother’s house eaves. They built up their nest step by step, twig by twig. Then, the swallow’s chicks made their appearance. At first, they were four. Tiny and quiet.

Every weekend when visiting my mother, I took a look at them: you could only see their heads with their small and always opened beak. It looked like they were always waiting for food. These swallow chicks made me think of us people. Maybe you’ve heard people saying ”I haven’t received it”, ”I wasn’t told”. Someone didn’t give it to me, didn’t feed me, I, who stood like those chicks, with their mouth opened for receiving.

We often forget we are not 3 months old anymore, nor 3 years. We forget that after 20, we stop waiting for our mother (represented now by our parents, managers) to come and stick the worm in our mouth – we go and get it ourselves. Evolution means to own yourself, stand up for your opinion, to earn your existence; we are responsible for ourselves, for our actions, wellbeing, or bad being. Although sometimes, we were so smothered by our parents who wanted to protect us, they somehow handicapped our will, discipline, consistency, enthusiasm. But they tried their best. Nowadays, when we are over 20, the responsibility is in our hands. Through best and worst.

Therefore, we can still keep our heads up just to stare at the stars, to dream with our eyes open, or admire someone or something so intense that we are left speechless.

Otherwise, we can’t let that happen.
