‘Alina, if you do not behave, I am going to leave you here, on the street, at night!’ said a lady to a 7 or 8-year-old, on the street, at night, last week.
I was getting out of my car when I heard the mother’s voice. It sent chills down my spine.
As if I had heard it before, a long time ago, when our mother would be angry with us when we were doing the exact opposite of what she wanted.
I remembered the many situations I have been through, the books I have read, the things that I have learned in my studies.
Fear of abandonment (the very same that this mother was unwittingly instilling in Alina) is created when we are young. It is one of our fundamental fears.
Not on purpose, we can induce in the child various types of conditioning that they cannot escape, unless they are willing and able to start an extensive self-examination.
The voices of our parents (who had all the best intentions for us) remain within our minds, and if we pay close attention, we will notice that we talk the same way to children.
Do you remember any ‘threats’ form your parents as a child?
